Today I worked with my first smal group! Earlier this week, I watched my master teacher give a lesson to a small reading group, and then I was supposed to reteach this lesson to another reading group. Thankfully, it went well! I really enjoyed working with a small group for my first lesson. I think it made it easier to manage the students. I taught them a reading comprehension lesson, in which we were reading and breaking down a fable. I am excited to see what comes next!
After some discussion with my teacher, we looked at the next couple of months in which I will be in the classroom and made a tentative gameplan on how to approach all the requirements I have from USD. For now, I have been observing and picking up on the teaching style of my master teacher. In particular, the way he addresses both positive and negative behavior is new to me and I am fascinated by how the students respond. There majority of the students in the class need a structure that helps keep them on track and provides them a way to succeed. My master teacher utilizes Whole Brain learning, and I really feel like I will be in a good place to watch how a teacher implements this learning style. I have not yet taught or planned to teach a lesson, but all in good time!
